Drying Example of WesternFlag – Herbs Drying Project in Mianyan, Sichuan Province, China

The customer of this project is located in Pingwu County, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, and operates a Chinese herbal medicine processing factory. For more than ten years they have been operating manually from the initial processing and drying of herbs. With labour costs getting higher and higher, the annual labour cost is more than a small amount. So the customer upgraded their herbal processing plant, upgraded to a fully automated herbal processing plant--by our Biomass Drying Room.

By slicing and processing herbs with the machine, a large amount can be processed in one day if there are only two people. The already processed herbs are laid flat on the baking trays that accompany the drying room. A drying room can hold 180 900*1200mm baking trays, with an effective laying area of 194.4 m².

The drying room is fully automatic. There's no need for any complicated steps, only need to push the stacked drying car with spread material into the biomass drying room, and then set the drying procedure on the PLC control system. The heating and moisture removal inside the drying room will be in accordance with the drying procedure, no need for people to watch, and no need to turn over the tray and reverse the cart. A set of drying room like this can easily dry 5-6 tonnes of herbs at one time.

Tips: The temperature for drying rhubarb, kudzu and other herbs is usually set at 40-70°C. Use a gradual approach to drying, and never start with a particularly high temperature, which will damage the quality of the herbs.

Steps of drying herbs by WesternFlag Biomass Drying Room:

1, start the drying room, set the temperature at 50 ℃ for 2 hours. When there is moisture in the drying room, open the inlet air valve, close the return air valve and start to remove moisture.

2、Set the temperature at 40℃-50℃ for 3.5 hours. This stage must not be high temperature, the temperature should not exceed 50 ℃, otherwise it will change the colour of the herbs. Observe the change of water vapour on the surface and dehumidify at any time.

3、Set the temperature at 50℃-60℃ for 4.5 hours. Pay attention that the temperature should not exceed 60℃. Properly open the air inlet valve, properly close the return air valve for moisture removal.

4, set the temperature at 60 ℃ -70 ℃ for 7 hours, and dehumidification. Note that the temperature should not exceed 70℃ in the early stage and 75℃ in the late stage.
