Radix Ophiopogonis is a kind of food, and also a Chinese traditional herb. Santai County in Sichuan Provice of China, has hundreds of years of Radix Ophiopogonis planting history.

The sandy soil alluviated by the Fuling River is rich in a variety of minerals and trace elements, together with sufficient sunshine and water and other planting advantages, making it one of the largest Radix Ophiopogonis planting areas in China. Radix Ophiopogonis is grown in an area of more than 60,000 acres, and its speciality the brand "Fucheng Maitong" has been named "China's National Geographical Indication Product".

Santai County is the main production area of Radix Ophiopogonis, its drying method is also a national leader. Local commonly used is the drum type drying heatable earth bed to dry, the drum is uninterrupted rotation, to avoid manual turning the heatable earth bed. The traditional drying method is the bottom of the coal/wood burning, direct fire blowing into the bottom of the heatable earth bed leads to burn it. But it is labour intensive, and also will makes the Radix Ophiopogonis sulfur content exceeding the standard, the Radix Ophiopogonis price is affected.

The customer in Santai County cooperated with us to renovate the heatable earth bed, the details of the case are as follows.

Drying Scene

We design the way of drying Radix Ophiopogonis in the way of drum drying heatable earth bed to connect with biomass hot air oven. The dried material is of good quality and also free from dust and impurities.

This dryer adopts intelligent temperature control equipment, which realises 10 stages of automatic adjustment, and is able to accurately control the drying temperature and humidity according to the different needs of the materials. This not only ensures that the herbs will not be affected by excessive temperature or humidity during the drying process, but also greatly improves the drying efficiency and saves time and manpower cost.

A set of four configurations of hot air oven can provide 300,000kcal of heat per hour. The efficient conversion of heat energy can quickly conduct the heat generated by the biomass hot air oven into the drying cylinder, providing a continuous and stable heat source for drying maitake. Compared with the traditional drying method, this indirect heat transfer method can not only better protect the quality of herbs, but also does not have the nuisance of burning the drying bed with direct fire.

In addition, as the biomass hot air furnace uses biomass pellets as the heat source, the dust and sparks generated by combustion will not come into direct contact with the herbs. This avoids the contamination of dust and impurities and ensures the purity and quality of Radix Ophiopogonis.
